AJ Lopez
Work at the edges of enterprise, consumer, and AI. Leading design at Microsoft AI, from Seattle.
Microsoft AI · Present
Answers, not dashboards.
Workforce Insights turns the org into something you can ask. Leading design for Microsoft's AI-driven people and org analytics: the team shapes how leaders, HR, and employees get real answers through Copilot, and builds the skills that make an AI agent actually useful inside a large enterprise.
Microsoft Viva Insights · 2021 – 2024
Designing the modern workday.
Three years leading design on Microsoft Viva, the productivity and wellbeing platform inside Microsoft 365. The work ran from a redesigned Leader and Manager experience and the first Copilot Dashboard to an immersive focus mode and a Headspace integration, all under a refreshed Viva brand. Built Microsoft's Dallas design studio from one designer to ten.
GitHub · 2020 – 2021
Bringing two design orgs together.
Design integration after Microsoft acquired GitHub: placing the Microsoft design team into roles inside GitHub's organization, then staying on with GitHub's leadership to translate the combined product portfolio into new cross-company work.
Microsoft Azure DevOps · 2018 – 2020
Collaborative development.
Led design across Azure DevOps, from the Azure.com landing page through onboarding, pricing, billing, and the first GitHub sign-in path inside Azure. The same work covered the VSTS rebrand and the visual system that tied it all together.
Zinc · 2016 – 2018
Rebuilt for the deskless workforce.
Zinc pivoted from CoTap into a platform for the deskless workforce, spanning messaging, push-to-talk, voice, video, and broadcast, unified across iOS, Android, web, and desktop. Led product and brand design with the CPO, shaping everything from the shipped experiences to the decks that went in front of boards and analysts.
Google Ads · 2015 – 2016
One console, every advertiser.
Every advertiser on Google touched the same console, from someone running a single small business to a team managing thousands of accounts. As Interaction Designer on AdWords, the focus was system-level: user management, the linked-accounts console that pulled external platforms together, the notifications and alerts system, and the move to Material Design.
Yelp · 2014 – 2015
When it went mobile.
Two designers, one mobile-first pivot. As Lead UI Designer, shared Yelp's flagship iOS, Android, and Apple Watch experiences with one other designer during the company's shift to mobile. The craft sat on both sides of the marketplace: consumer features people actually used, and the growth and monetization surfaces that kept merchants coming back.
About me:
Originally from Venezuela, now in Seattle. Drawn to design that's both useful and beautiful, the kind that gets out of the way. Bilingual in English and Spanish.
Off the clock: interior design, architecture, travel, photography. Engineer by training.
Still curious about how things are built.
